Hardwood floor care and maintenance guide

Updated June 2026 · 6 min read · By the D-Lux team

Good hardwood floors are easy to keep up if you know the basics. A little routine care keeps the finish healthy for years.

Everyday cleaning

Sweep or vacuum regularly to keep grit from scratching the finish, and damp-mop with a cleaner made for hardwood. Skip steam mops and excess water.

  • Do: dry dust and hardwood-safe cleaner.
  • Avoid: steam, vinegar, and standing water.

Protect the finish

Use felt pads under furniture, rugs in high-traffic paths, and mats at doors. Keep pet nails trimmed and wipe spills quickly.

Recoat before you refinish

A maintenance recoat every few years refreshes the topcoat without a full sanding, and it extends the life of the floor. We can set you up with a schedule.
